The aim of the Service is to provide women with a safe and supportive environment where individuals feel empowered to address any issues they may have, so that they can go on to make positive decisions about their lives: where they are able to gain some stability and work towards moving on to sustainable independent living and planned resettlement, exploring what, if any, the barriers to achieving this and supporting and signposting to organisations for support in any identified specified area.
Hinde House has 20 bedrooms in the main part of the building and has 9 move-on flats and one 2 bedroomed shared house, enabling clients to move on.
Hinde House is staffed 24 hours a day and all of our service users have an allocated Key Worker, who works alongside an individual, to develop a support package which identifies and meets their individual support needs, helping to achieve their goals and aspirations.
The keyworker will work with clients using The Outcome Star, which is an engagement tool, designed to help support a client’s journey towards self reliance.
Everyone makes changes in their own way but the pattern is often similar.
From feeling stuck, to accepting help and believing that we can make a difference ourselves in our life. We look ahead towards what we want as well as away from the things we don’t want. We start to do things ourselves to achieve our goal as well as accepting help from others.
The next step is learning, as we learn we gradually become more self-reliant, until we get to the point when we can manage without help from the project.
Clients that we support come from many walks of life and may be affected by a variety of issues, ranging from drug and alcohol misuse, domestic abuse, mental health, childhood trauma, leaving care, family and relationship breakdowns, criminality, exploitation and many more.
In order to help achieve positive outcomes for our clients, we adopt a holistic approach, working in partnership with a variety of other services and agencies, to ensure the client receives the best individual tailored support package available to meet their needs.
We have worked in partnership previously with Footsteps, running an art therapy class for women from Hinde and Footsteps who suffer from mental health issues and who are involved of or are at risk of being involved with the criminal justice system.
As well as working with other services to ensure we offer a holistic approach, we also work very hard at Hinde to look at ways to improve the physical, mental and emotional health and well-being of the women whom we support, this is achieved by involving our clients in the shaping and delivery of the service, thus empowering them, helping to increase self esteem and self confidence, we hold regular service users meetings, where clients are able to have their say and can have an impact on things, such as house rules and what activities they would like to see, helping shape the service. We also have service user representatives who are involved in staff team meetings and service users are significantly involved in the staff recruitment process.
We also work hard at creating a sense of community within the scheme and promoting social skills and general well-being, we have regular coffee mornings, film nights, house meals and BBQ’s in the summer.
In order to help improve emotional, physical health and mental health, we have cookery classes, gardening projects, arts and crafts, yoga classes, walk and talks and pamper nights.
We also organise a trip annually, where clients go away overnight on a camping and activity trip where they learn to build fires, try their hand at archery, canoeing, kayaking or climbing. These activities provide opportunities for service users to face new challenges and develop new skills; therefore increasing confidence, resilience, self esteem and self worth. All of which are invaluable, particularly when preparing for independent living.
