Hi there and welcome to This Week at Orwell. This is your five-minute video newsletter sharing stories from around the Orwell community this last week.
Fraud Awareness Week
This week it is ‘International Fraud Awareness Week’ and is an opportunity for organisations and communities to come together to look at how far reaching the effects of fraud can be.
Every year across the country, billions of taxpayers’ money is lost due to fraud and the National Fraud Office suggests that the full extent of public sector losses is unknown, since much fraud is hidden, difficult to find or remains unreported.
In particular, East Suffolk have put together a campaign to encourage everybody to report such activity to them (or your own Council), so that those responsible can be stopped.
For example, East Suffolk are encouraging people to report any suspected fraudulent activities committed against East Suffolk Council, please email fraud@eastsuffolk.gov.uk or call 01394 444444. A fraud referral form is also available online.
International Mens Day | ‘Being a Man’ event
International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. It highlights positive role models and raises awareness of men’s well-being.
Organisations MANUP?, Guy Cry Club, and Suffolk Mind are teaming up this International Men’s Day to host a brand new event, ‘Being a man’. On Sunday, 19 November, International Men's Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities.
Held at The Hold, in Ipswich, the agenda is packed with practical workshops and a panel discussion. We’re also being joined by other organisations who are on hand to talk to you about finances, mental health, physical health and family support.
We’re inviting everyone to join this free event to explore what it means to be a man in today’s world. No matter your background, current situation or how you identify, you’re welcome.
Pop in, grab a coffee and have a chat, or join us for the day and take part in the whole agenda.
