2023 saw Orwell Housing Association celebrate 6 decades of making a difference to local communities across East Anglia. In December of last year, Orwell marked the occasion by planting the first of 60 trees across the region with the remaining trees planted in the first quarter of this year. This is not only a great way to commemorate the organisation's 60 years of service, but it also promotes sustainable living and supports local biodiversity.
The collection of trees was carefully selected by Simon Bennett, Orwell Housing Association's Repairs and Estates Manager, and are all native to the UK. Trees included Alder, English Oak, Blackthorn, Guelder Rose, Willow, and Juniper.
The first tree was planted at Orwell Housing's Ipswich Office, Crane Hill Lodge, on 20th December 2023 and the Association has now planted a further 59 trees at different sites around its communities.
Simon Bennett, Repairs and Estates Manager for Orwell Housing, said,
“The trees have been planted at Orwell’s many extra care and temporary supported housing schemes, on our estates and at our offices. We hope they will help the environment and create a pleasant space for those living nearby. Orwell Housing Association is proud to have made a positive impact on the lives of many people over the years and we are committed to continuing our efforts to make a difference in any way we can. The tree-planting initiative is just one of many ways we strive to lower our carbon footprint and create a better future for everyone.”
