We know that one of the greatest challenges for rural communities has been its ageing population and the growing demand from younger generations. Since COVID and more agile working house prices have generally increased further in our rural areas as more people seek more amenity space and to benefit from the beauty of the countryside. This has made house prices even less affordable in rural areas for local people.
The need for levelling up rural areas is both urgent and necessary and Orwell Housing Association is playing its part in achieving this locally.
One of our current schemes is based in the village of Parham. We will shortly complete on 10 affordable homes and we are about to start to build nine more. The homes will be a combination of shared ownership and affordable rented and will be let or sold to local families.
This means more homes for more local people and a more diverse demographic, which could support a wider range of local services, amenities, and businesses improving the lives of rural communities across the County.
